Springtime and fall are the most temperate seasons. After a wet winter, springtime in the desert can be a spectacular sight, with fields of flowers suddenly blossoming and snow melt from the Colorado Plateau triggering water flows in the usually dry creeks. The multitude of cactus species start to bloom in the April and May, while most wildflowers bloom in late May through July. The golden autumn colors of the cottonwood and sycamore trees along Oak Creek and the few but dramatic patches of orange and red foliage in the higher elevations on the Colorado Plateau peak in late October or early November.
The summer brings what we locally call the "monsoon season". It lasts for three months from from early July to early September. The dramatic afternoon rainstorms during this season are known to produce pink lightning and Arizona´s famous double rainbows - but they typically last no more than one hour.
In the winter months, you might just catch a glimpse of a snow-covered cactus - for a minute or two. Although it does sometimes snow in Sedona, the sun will usually melt it all away with an hour or two. However, in the higher elevations, the snow sticks around - and Sedona´s famous red rock buttes, decorated with a sprinkle of snow, are a sight to behold.
As far as we are concerned, one of Sedona's highlights is its great year-round weather. It's always a great time to travel to Sedona!
