Uptown Sedona is a great blend of history, shops, galleries, activities and tasty treats for everyone and is the main hub of visitor activity. There are many shops located on Sedona's “Main Street”, along with great dining options, hotel possibilities and loads of local tour and activity companies - all within easy walking distance. You can easily devote a day to strolling down the pedestrian walkways to discover galleries that specialize in modern, contemporary and southwestern fine art. Additionally, you may take some time for souvenir shopping to take home as gifts.
Sidewalk cafes offer amazing vistas and sumptuous food while the smells of waffle cones, Sedona fudge, Mexican food and southwestern barbecue tempt your palate everywhere you go. Impressive statues, beautiful art pieces, and refreshing fountains dot the main street combining art and shopping together in one.
The Sedona Arts Center is a Uptown Sedona institution, which includes a school and gallery, with works exhibited by various artists. Back in 1958 a gentleman by the name of Nassan Gobran along with a group of local artists originally purchased the old Jordan Apple and Peach Packing facility and turned it into the “Art Barn,” a place for local artists to congregate and share their artistic dreams. The old barn still stands here today and has since continued to be a community-centered school and gallery where artists can learn from each other and exhibit their works for all to enjoy in the Members Art Gallery.
If you are a history buff and want to learn about the pioneering history of the area, stroll down Jordan Road to the Sedona Heritage Museum at Jordan Historical Park. The museum occupies the original farmstead of one of Sedona's founding families, the Jordans. Exhibits include written narratives, vintage orchard equipment and photographs, which depict the area's early history.
Throughout the year many festivals and parades take place in Uptown both on the main street and on neighboring Jordan Rd. including the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in March, the National Day of the Cowboy in July, the Uptown Moonlight Madness Street Fair every Labor Day Weekend, the “Paint Out” on Main Street in October, a safe annual Halloween Trick-or-Treat in October and the annual Holiday Tree Lighting & Santa Visit in December.
To find parking in Uptown, drive about 1/2 block on 89A and turn left on Jordan Road. Travel a couple of blocks to Schnebly Road, turn right and watch for the city parking lot on the left. You can either hop on the free Sedona Roadrunner Shuttle and let them do the driving for you or walk the short distance to the main street to stroll through Uptown.
